About the Author
F. J. Britten is generally considered the preeminent horologist of his time. I bought this after downloading it from Google books (the content has no copyright on it). The first copy I received was missing about 80 of the pages. I sent it back; the first time I've sent anything back to Amazon (a surprisingly easy process: thanks Amazon). I got a second copy which is missing about 30 pages (blank), with another 40-50 completely illegible from bad printing. I haven't sent back the second copy, mostly out of laziness, but if I do send it back, I won't ask for another copy. The publisher of this book is criminally negligent for allowing this to happen. The book is worthless as printed. Just download the thing, print it out at Kinkoes, and be happy. The book contents, if you could actually read them, are actually excellent for beginner horologists. Unfortunately, if you buy this edition of the book, you won't be able to read them.
Having both the printed (which a paid a lot for a few years ago) and the Kindle version... I am very satisfied that the Kindle version is a good copy of the original, and a lot easier to tote around. The language is stilted, because it was written a century ago. The only drawback is that "surfing" around the book is difficult since there is no link to the index, and no page numbers in the kindle offering. But the pictures were clear , and I could find no text missing or smudged. Just my opinion ...

Informative reference
A classic as is Saunier and Baillie
Full of good information but some of it is a bit dated. Good data to fall back on.
For clock nostalgia it is very interesting and informative however as a guide since it is written in dictionary format it lacks the structue to serve as a guide. I did not see any indication that it had been updated and I prefer to refer to more modern day maintenace and repair guides.
Must buy for any Horologist.
