There’s definitely some good information in here but overall this book is inconsistent from park to park. If you’re looking for a more complete and thorough book on the national parks, check out Your Guide to the National Parks: The Complete Guide to All 59 National Parks
I also purchased the "Your Guide to National Parks" which had detailed information to all the parks. I was disappointed when I looked up less visited national parks and the guide only had a half page description with the park phone number and webpage. I found more information with my own research.
I've been to 46 of the National Parks and there really are few secrets here. Pretty much everything in this book is basic information that can be found at the National Parks' websites or in a simple search of TripAdvisor or other travel forums.
This book has a lot of great "secret" tips for all the major National Parks. Stuff you wouldn't otherwise think of / know of. Things like, lesser-known hikes, less crowded campsites, alternate routes to getting around crowds and traffic ect. Its very helpful to have in your collection. I only wish each park's section was a bit longer - most parks only get about a page and a half of info. But the visitor center location, address and phone numbers are there along with a map so that's good
I have a colleague at work that spends a good amount of his off time hiking all over our country. I too have travelled, so when his birthday came up at work, I figured this would make a great companion book . National Geographic books have the best pictures and he was really surprised to get it. Better than the usual cake & card stuff given at the office.
Good book with some good secrets - but not enough.
Great book lots of interesting information used it while traveling out west and going to national parks
This book is lovely but really should be renamed: some helpful tips for bigger parks. It certainly contains no real secrets.
